 We'd like you to write a proposal of not more than 300 words for a brand new TV or Radio Series.

The purpose of the proposal is to give a clear and concise summary of what your idea is and how it would work. Think about the needs of the BBC channel, station or time of broadcast where your series would fit. Guide:

Roots

As a young new trend of knitting and cup cake making emerges, Roots explores what it is that makes us seek the handmade, the crafted and the traditional, within our modern digital era. The series explores whether it is our very nature that makes us sometimes resist a digital and mass produced environment or whether it is simply generational influences that cling onto, what some may describe as, the old fashioned.

 Roots fits in well with BBC4's radio for curious minds. The series questioning and explorative nature, which would feature guest experts in various topics, would sit under Radio 4s 'Discussion and Talk' range of programmes. As an eight part series, it would be broadcast weekly during the early evening when its target audience of 20 plus will have time after work to listen whilst making their supper or driving home from work.

 There would be 4 main areas of exploration, each with 2 episodes that will take the listener through discussions of the lifestyle choices that surround them from that of their home, fashions and trends, hobbies and their own influential past.

 Craft Vs Mass production. The psychology of 'the individual' and the need to stand out would be discussed in relation to purchasing choices and home made craft activities. Guest speakers from the management of a company such as Ikea, would explain what attracts people to buy from them, whilst the owners of traditional
